Accross the street from where we lived on Arekok Weg #58, were the Hose [pronounced "Hosay"] family. The wife's name was Maria, [alias EYA]. Her eldest son was Harold. Her daughter Diana, pronounced as Dyana was my childhood friend. We often played in each other's homes. Sometimes her mum was my baby-sitter when my mum ran short errands. I would love to get in touch with Dyana again, particularly before my planned visit.
There was also the Ezekiel family on the other side of the street too. This is all my parents remember..I only remember the name. Both families are Kurasolenians.
I would be happy if I could find at least one member of those families.
Please have some more pictures put on the site, particularly from the 1950's.

I was born of Dominican parents in my homeland Curacao. My sister, Shirley, whose homeland it is too, and I always envied when my parents spoke of their memorable experiences there..My dad is now ninety-two years old and still dreams of the island, he considers his second home.
We lived on Arekok Weg #58 in Charo. My dad worked at the oil refinery from 1945 to 1960. He often refers to the refinery as Isla. My mom worked with a 'Methrowe' in the Punda area. I was baptised at the Coromoto Catholic Church. My God mother [a Dominican too] lived in a place called Deng. My cousins lived in Suffisante. They belong to the 'Mentar' family. Could you do some research in assisting me to find Janche Mentar? He is a police superintendant with the Curacao Police Force. He often goes on assignments to Holland. He is my dad's Godson too. My Godfather lived in Spanish Town.
My school life began in Curacao. The kindergarten school which I attended for two years, was not too far away from where we lived in Charo. If my memory serves me right, I think there was a primary school in that same area.
I remember names such as: Hato, Suffisante, Isla, Poontoon Bridge, West pointe, Santa Maria, Deng, Autrobanda, Scattegatte.
Are the buses still called Convoys?
Can you tell me where Charo is?
Does the kindergarten school still exist?
In which area is the Coromoto church?
We are planning to visit the island for the first time ever since we left almost forty years ago some time in August, if God permits us. We are looking forward with great anticipation of an exciting trip.

I have always hoped that I would one day be able to return for an extended visit,but alas,not yet.!
I,m sure there have been many changes & I doubt whether Campe Allegre & the Merhant Navy club(affectionately known as the Madhouse)outside the refinery gates are still there.
The Salvation Army club in Willemstad may have survived,though.
If anyone can remember these places from the 60,s,drop me a line.
I will never forget this beautiful island & it,s people.

Wish I could contact some of my old friends who attented Albert Schweitzer school in the years 1978 to 1981. One boy(man) I really remember is "Ulrich" He had a sister and a younger brother who unfortunatly had an untimely passing shortly after I left for Canada while riding his bicycle. His mother ran a ballet school.
Curacao is the most beautiful Island in the Caribean, and I am not being biased :)

Nu ik hier weer woon geniet ik van Nederland, maar mis toch wel een beetje mijn Curacao. Niet de temperaturen, maar wel die prachtige blauwe zee, De easy way off living, terrasjes zoals die bij Wedervoort en Hooks Hut.
